Is Britain about to miss the electric boat?

To add to the pressure, the Department of Transport has announced an incentive scheme that would see grants of up to £5000 being offered to purchasers of electric cars from 2011. But where are these cars going to come from? So far, the most popular battery powered car in London is the G-Wiz, a small four seater designed in California, built in India and imported into the UK by a company called GoinGreen. And is there not also a chance that a group of entrepreneurs somewhere in China are now looking hungrily at the opportunities to be offered by a large, unsatisfied market in the UK? Trade is trade and if UK manufacturers don't want to miss the cheap electric car opportunity they need to get a move on. It's no use weeping over dead gas guzzling Vauxhalls. I once had a Victor FD super with a fuel system that sprayed neat petrol into the inlet manifold for extra power. This gave it a 20mpg performance to go with its 110mph foot flat on the floor. But nowadays, such machines are dinosaurs, even if they were great to look at and lovely to ride in. So wake up British car engineers, before India and China give the public want it wants and take the UK car market for their own.
