UK manufacturing industry in decline? Au contraire!
It would seem that the UK manufacturing industry has sprung to life for the first two months of this year, according to a recent release from the BBC, with new export orders increasing and companies reporting that UK customers were increasingly willing to spend. The Guardian was even brave enough to suggest that the UK manufacturing rebound suggests that a recession could be adverted.
As UK manufacturers are urged by politicians and lobby groups to look beyond traditional trading partners in the troubled Eurozone, there were modest signs of demand picking up further afield. Manufacturers reported improved orders from clients in Brazil, China, the Middle East and the US.
A true British and worldwide iconic brand, Triumph Motorcycles, has seen rapid manufacturing growth over the past few years – producing over 50,000 motorcycles annually, including 4 new models and updates to current models. 80% of these motorcycles are for export, predominantly to the US market. With this surge in the market, and the desire to continue leading the competition in producing motorcycles that meet the demands of the consumer, Triumph has recently invested in a new PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) solution from PTC. Due to be deployed in the latter part summer 2012, this new comprehensive PLM platform will support the entire design process, from early-stage product development all the way through to manufacturing.
