£55m engineering faculty opens at Coventry
Coventry University's faculty of engineering and computing is moving into a new £55m home this week in time for the new intake of students at the end of September.
The building, which will cater for some 4,000 students, will feature a high-precision wind tunnel designed and built by the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team, as well as a £2.6m centre to support UK SMEs with the development of sustainable construction technologies.
Other facilities include a £3m high performance engineering centre home to a Harrier Jump Jet aircraft, three flight simulators, the UK's largest magnet, engine test cells for petrol and electric power trains, and a leading precision measurement facility.
Paul Ivey, dean of the university's faculty of engineering and computing, said: "I am delighted to have this new home for the faculty. Our students can look forward to advanced, innovative education, informed by the latest research and driven by the need of employers."
