Bleeding radiators dry
A Birmingham-based inventor has developed a device that allows radiators to be ‘bled’ at the touch of a button
.
Martin O’Donnell is managing director of Green Innovations, which developed the Easybleed valve.
“Air locks are very common in the home and for a radiator to work efficiently, you should bleed them several times a year,” he said. “This meant unscrewing a small bleed valve with a square headed tool and this posed several problems – from mislaying the tool to the likely scenario of rusty water spraying all over the carpet.”
With Easybleed, you simply push a button in. When the air is gone you will get a very small drop of water coming from the bleed hole.
It can be used on nearly 90% of radiators and replacement bleed valves can be completed within five minutes. With over 7.5m radiators sold each year, the potential for the product is huge, he claims.
The idea was backed by support from Business Link West Midlands.
