Bosch tackles skills crisis with search for future engineers
In a bid to tackle the growing skills crisis in the UK engineering sector, Bosch has launched an essay writing competition for young people aged 14 to 24. The Bosch Technology Horizons Award 2011 is now open for online entries with cash prizes for the winners as well as paid work placements at a Bosch site in the UK.
"We want to encourage young people to understand the beneficial impact of technological innovation," said Bosch president Peter Fouquet, pictured. "The Technology Horizons Award is designed to show young people that engineering can be a worthwhile career which can make an enormous contribution to society and economic performance."
The first prize in the 18 to 24's category is £1000 with the opportunity to undertake six months paid work experience at a Bosch site in the UK. The 14 to 18 age group winner will receive £700 as well as two weeks of paid work experience. Winners in both age groups will receive an invitation for two people to attend the Royal Academy of Engineering Awards Dinner in June 2011.
