Members of British Marine, the membership organisation for the leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry, dominated the list of UK companies to be honoured. The latest innovations from Lewmar, Raymarine, Spinlock and Navionics received Special Mentions, whilst Category Winners included products from Navico, and Spinlock, who went on to receive joint Overall DAME 2015 Winner.
Richard Selby, international development manager at British Marine, said: "With UK innovation consistently dominating marine awards and competitions across the globe, the 2015 DAME Design Awards are further confirmation of British excellence and heritage in cutting-edge design and revolutionary technology."
Spinlock received a Special Mention for its product, the ‘Rig-Sense’, a rig tuning tool developed for consistent and repeatable measurement of loads on wire and fibre, in the ‘Deck Equipment, Sail and Rigging’ category. Spinlock also clinched Overall DAME joint winner for its Lume-On, LED light technology that attaches to a lifejacket to make the wearer more visible, which also won in the ‘Lifesaving and Safety Equipment’ category.
In the ‘Marine Electronics and Marine Related Software’ category, Navico’s ‘Halo Pulse Compression Radar’, claimed to be the world’s first solid-state, open-array radar system with pulse compression technology, was named the Category Winner.
Bill Dixon, chairman of the DAME jury, added: "It was difficult to award Category Winners because of the quality on display. The entries required a lot of discussion before we could reach a consensus - even the Special Mentions were really hard earned."
