Car night vision highlights pedestrians
A German night vision system highlights moving pedestrians on a driver screen display.
The Bosch Night Vision plus system uses infrared headlights with a range of 150m, about three times that of common low beam headlights. A separate control unit analyses images from an infra red camera behind the windscreen, pixel by pixel to distinguish between stationary and moving objects. When a moving object, such as a pedestrian is detected, it is highlighted on a screen display on the dashboard, just below the windscreen.
Because the light from the infra red headlights is invisible to the human eye, it cannot dazzle other road users.
The system has been introduced on both Mercedes E-Class and new S-Cl models.
