Floating wind farm planned off coast of Peterhead
Europe's largest floating wind farm is set to be built off the coast of Peterhead in Aberdeenshire.
Norwegian firm Statoil has been granted permission by the Crown Estate for the Hywind project, which will see five 6MW turbines operate in waters up to 100m deep.
The company has been working on this project with the Crown Estate for the past two years.
It is now trying to secure the necessary consents from the Scottish government.
Siri Espedal Kindem, Statoil's senior vice president for renewable energy, said: "We will continue to mature the Hywind Scotland Pilot Park towards a final investment decision, by conducting marine surveys and concept studies in order to demonstrate technical and commercial feasibility for future offshore floating wind.
"We look forward to a progressed dialogue with key stakeholders in Scotland, including communities, the local supply chain and local authorities."
