Formula 1 cto recognised by IET

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has awarded Red Bull Racing's chief technical officer Adrian Newey the Coales Medal for Achievement in Transport.

The award was given in recognition of his accomplishments in the motor racing world, which include being the only person in history to have designed Formula One World Championship winning cars for three different teams. "This is a huge honour for me to have been presented with this award," commented Newey. "It is also a milestone for the motor racing industry that I have been recognised by the general transport industry for my part in transport development." IET president Dr Mike Short said: "Adrian is a worthy recipient of the Coales Medal for Achievement in Transport. He is a leading light of the Formula 1 world and is widely regarded as one of the greatest engineers in the sport's history. His design-inspired cars continue to be the dominant force in the world of motor racing." Newey joined Red Bull Racing in 2006, winning the Formula 1 drivers and the Constructors' Championship in 2010 and 2011. The car he designed propelled Sebastian Vettel to retain his second Driver's Championship, making him the youngest person in history to do so.
