Forum to advance innovation in medical devices

A major networking event is to be held in London to encourage and assist innovation in the development of medical devices.

The MDT Innovation Forum is to be held at Olympia 2 on July 6th 2005 and is being organised by the team behind the annual UK Medical Device Technology exhibition & conference. The intention is that "This will be the place where ideas, needs, technology and money all meet", explained Simon Timm, chairman of Octo Media. "The Government's Healthcare Industries Task Force recommended greater interaction among all players within the sector, and this event will deliver just that." The Forum is being launched with the backing of a 'founders' group of more than 50 leading figures from the industry, including Professor David Williams, director of the UK Centre for Tissue Engineering and Dr Diana Hodgins, MBE, managing director of European Technology for Business. There will be a mix of plenary sessions and briefings, sponsors' presentations, focused roundtable discussion groups, pre-arranged one-to-one meetings and showcase displays. Through the event's website, delegates will be able to build their own personal schedule of meetings, discussions and presentations prior to attending. Discussion areas are to be driven and directed by delegates and can include market forecasts, investment opportunities, intellectual rights, regulatory issues, outsourcing, partnering, technology transfer and feedback on market trials.
