Green business revolution predicted to be as big as eBusiness

According to Martin Chilcott, founder and CEO of Oxford based Meltwater Ventures, “Green Business is going to be the next e-Business”.

Giving the keynote on the second day of Venturefest at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, he declared that, “We are now having a sustainability revolution”, and “We are exploding from a very small base”. He said that the costs of technologies such as wind and solar power generation, were being driven downward in a similar manner to that in which Moore’s Law has seen the cost of computing power halve about every two years over several decades. He said that while many dot com companies did go bust, “The dot come bubble never ended – the underlying gains in productivity continue” and that Green business or “Gbusiness was the next big opportunity that he expected would, “Extend over the next 20 years”. He said there were differences, “Much of the Gbusiness revolution is being driven by regulation” and because of the complexity of the issues, “We have got to get much better at collaborating”. To this end, he announced that, “One of the businesses we are developing is 2degrees”, which describes itself as “The first online and offline community where people, capital and ideas unite to develop, launch and grow g-businesses”.
