Jaguar in four of six major low carbon projects
Jaguar and Jaguar Land Rover are either lead companies or prominent members of four of the six low carbon vehicle projects to receive major government support.
Transport Secretary, Philip Hammond has announced that £24million of Technology Strategy Board money will go to: VIPER – Vehicle Integrated Powertrain Energy Recovery, lead by Jaguar Land Rover; REEV – Range Extended Electric Vehicles, led by the same company; AluMatCom – Aluminium Matrix Composite Materials for Vehicle Weight Reduction, led by Jaguar; and CREO – CO2 Reduction through Emissions Optimisation, led by Ford but with Jaguar Land Rover as a participant. The other two projects are: Hybrid Integrated Urban Commercial Vehicle, led by Dennis Eagle and Lightweight Ultra Low Emissions Delivery Van, led by Intelligent Energy.
Jaguar has already established its green credentials by its work on the LimoGreen project, one of a plethora of low or zero carbon vehicle technologies on show at the just held LCV – Low Carbon Vehicles event held at the Millbrook Proving Ground. Costs are coming down as production volumes are going up, and some, such as the Ashwoods Automotive hybrid kit for retrofitting Ford Transit vans, are now selling in the hundreds, because of the cost benefits that they offer.
