Allied to an innovative thermally optimised and lightweight design of engine structure – overseen by Ricardo – the project aims to deliver over 10% improvement to fuel economy while reducing CO2 emissions.
The project is supported and part-funded by UK Government through the Advanced Propulsion Centre, as well as from contributions by the participating companies. It also aims to improve the UK’s development and production of low-CO2 internal combustion engine technology.
Andy Morris, Latitude project leader for Ricardo, said: “Latitude is an important initiative in pushing forward engine innovation and consolidating the UK supply chain. Our contribution to it will help to improve the state of the art in lightweight, high quality and high performance engine design.”
