The new optoNCDT 5500 offers excellent repeatability and high linearity even on rapidly changing and poorly reflecting surfaces including on ceramics and metals. The increased measuring rate of 75 kHz, a high resistance to ambient light, and improved temperature stability make this the sensor of choice for challenging high speed automation tasks.
The optoNCDT 5500 laser displacement sensor with integral controller is specially designed for the displacement measurement of diffusely reflective materials and demanding measurement tasks such as those that occur with rapidly changing and/or low-reflective surfaces. With an adjustable measurement rate from 0.25 to 75 kHz and a maximum power consumption of just 5 W, the optoNCDT ILD5500 is also extremely energy-efficient.
The optoNCDT 5500 offers outstanding precision, with linearity from 1.5 µm and repeatability of less than 0.15 µm. With a lightweight, compact, and robust (IP67 protection rating) aluminium die cast housing, the sensor is suitable for use in harsh industrial environments, and can be mounted in confined spaces. The sensor also offers high resistance to shock and vibration.
Typical areas of application include assembly of printed circuit boards, position testing of components, wear inspection of train rails, road surface testing, thickness measurement in tyre production, as well as measurement tasks in 3D printing, automotive assembly and inspection, renewable energies, battery production, coordinate measuring machines, and precision machine building.
Due to Advanced Surface Compensation and innovative software algorithms, it is possible to quickly control the exposure time, which allows the sensor to perform stable measurements even on challenging surfaces with changing reflections. The sensor is also extremely resistant to ambient light and is suitable for use in highly illuminated areas with up to 50,000 lux of ambient light.
The optoNCDT 5500 is initially available in four measuring ranges of 10, 25, 100 and 200 mm and all sensors feature both a standard and an extended measurement range. The high speed 75 kHz measurement rate is achieved without reduction in the measuring range. The sensor comes with analogue, RS422 and Ethernet interfaces as standard. EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP and PROFINET communication is achieved via an optional interface module. Each sensor also features three encoder inputs for direct integration and synchronisation in surface mapping applications, which makes the sensor extremely versatile.
The new sensor fits within the space envelope of its predecessor, the optoNCDT 2300, and matches the stand-off distances of the outgoing sensor. An adapter plate is available that makes the optoNCDT 5500 interchangeable with the optoNCDT 2300.
