Military amputees to receive bionic legs
Injured military personnel who have lost their limbs will now have access to the most technologically advanced prosthetics available, thanks to new funding announced by Defence Secretary Philip Hammond and Chancellor George Osborne.
The government has made £6.5million available from the Special Reserve to guarantee that all serving personnel and veterans injured while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan will be able to upgrade to the latest prosthetics technology where clinically appropriate.
George Osborne commented: "I am delighted that we have been able to make funding available for this cutting edge prosthetic technology, which will go a long way to improving the lives of people who have done so much for the UK."
The first patients are expected to be fitted with the new artificial limbs by late spring.
