Motion control subsystem offers robot style handling
Said to be able to perform similar types of loading and unloading movements to many industrial SCARA robots, Festo's compact integrated motion control subsystem is designed to provide machine builders with a flexible means of providing programmable rotary and linear movement, at a fraction of the cost.
Suitable for parts handling and positioning applications, the EHMB module features a decoupled design to enable the rotary and lifting movements to be controlled independently. The subsystem utilises an 'all electric' approach to facilitate implementation of complex rotary/linear movement, which means machine productivity improvement and retooling can be accomplished under software control alone.
The smaller size 20 mode, which provides the integral Z movement in portal and Cartesian parts handling systems, is designed to accommodate payloads of up to 3kg, generate more than 3Nm of torque and handle moments of inertia as high as 30kg/cm/cm. The larger size 25 model is optimised for stationary use and according to Festo, can accommodate payloads as high as 5kg, generate 8.8Nm of torque and handle moments of inertia of up to 100kg/cm/cm.
Both modules offer a choice of 100 and 200mm stroke lengths and are capable of generating up to 480N of lifting force. They have been designed to handle linear speeds up to 500mm/s with ±0.1mm repeatability and rotational speeds of up to 300rpm with a repeatability of ±0.05°C.
