Nano lubricant project well under way
BHR Group has started working as project manager of the part EC funded AddNano nano lubricant project.
Inorganic fullerene materials have shown great promise as a means of reducing friction and enhancing protection against wear, but it is said that transfer into new industrial technologies still represents a bottleneck.
The main aim is to reduce the use of zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate anti wear additives in engine oils with a consequent improvement in the lives of exhaust catalysts, which tend to be poisoned by sulphur and phosphorous.
Incorporated in other lubricants, the nano particles are expected to reduce friction and enhance machine durability.
Infineum is Project Co-ordinator in partnership with 13 other organisations including Ricardo. BHR Group will contribute to the project with technical expertise on nanoparticle dispersion and tribology.
