New FEA software suits large models
New FEA software is said to offer 'dramatic' gains for very large problems
.
A new Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient based eigensolver has been added to NE/Nastran V8.2 which is said to offer dramatic performance gains for large Eigenvalue problems (over 70,000 Degrees of Freedom). The solver is based on the same technology as the PCGLSS solver available in V8.1 for linear and nonlinear statics. The new eigensolver uses a blocked Lanczos method and requires less memory than the current solver.
A year ago, NE/Nastran Finite Element Analysis software developed by Noran Engineering was formally launched in the UK and Irish Markets, through appointed distributors Epsilon Structural Analysis based in Hertfordshire. Since then, the software is said to have generated a great deal of interest and to have been extremely well received by Industry, to the extent that it has been purchased by a significant number of major UK companies in the Aerospace, Automotive and Maritime Industries.
NE/Nastran for Windows offers a complete suite of structural analysis software solutions including: linear static, buckling, prestress, modal, dynamics, nonlinear, steady state & transient heat transfer as well as specialised analysis types such as DDAM, composites, optimisation, fatigue, CFD, and mechanical event simulation. The software is fully compatible with other legacy NASTRAN products as well as the majority of CAE and CAD packages currently on the market. The NE/Nastran Modeler (FEMAP) for pre & post processing can import/export IGES, STEP, ACIS, Parasolid, OP2 and various native CAD file formats.
Other Analysis Improvements include: face sheet stability analysis for 3 ply composite sandwich laminates. Three failure modes are assessed: wrinkling, dimpling (honeycomb cores), and crimping
To further it’s success, Epsilon Structural Analysis will be promoting Version 8.2 of NE/Nastran at the Solid Modelling 2003 show (Stand 84).
