Objet hails 3D printing breakthrough
Rapid prototyping specialist Objet has added 39 new digital materials to its Connex range of 3D printing systems, making it the first company to break the 100 materials barrier.
According to Objet, customers can now select from 107 different materials, ranging from rigid to rubber-like substances and standard to ABS-grade engineering plastic.
90 of the 107 materials made available by the firm are 'digital materials', derived by the composite mixing of primary Objet materials. These are said to enable designers, engineers and manufacturers to simulate precise material properties to closely resemble their intended end product with the greatest level of realism.
According to objet, the use of the Connex multi material 3D printer allows users to combine up to 14 of these materials at the same time in a single consistent model.
David Reis, Objet's ceo, commented: "With 39 new digital materials, Objet has become the first 3D printing company to break the 100 materials barrier. Considering that we had half this number just a few short years ago, this growth in material choice confirms our commitment to consistently deliver new and enhanced material properties to our customers.
