The extended CE approval permits its use in the European market for anterior and posterior crowns as well as posterior and three-unit bridges (maximum one pontic). Previously, the dental disc, manufactured from the high-performance polymer PEEK (polyetheretherketone), was permitted only for the CAD/CAM-based manufacture of implant-bone, fixed and removable prosthetics
Dr Rajesh Vijay, a UK-based dentist said patients replacing metal-based prosthesis are happier with the dental disc: "Patients of mine, who have had JUVORA instead of metal frameworks, report that their comfort levels are much better…because they've worn a metal based prosthesis … they can tell the difference."
The JUVORA dental disc is designed as a framework for dental prosthetics with CAD/CAM-based production in mind. As the high performance polymer provides significantly more shock absorption than metals (26 times more than titanium), it may help to address the effects of certain conditions such as bruxism/parafunction and comfort.
JUVORA is sourced exclusively for the dental market from Invibio Biomaterial Solutions, and is the only PEEK that has been used successfully in human medical devices for 15 years.
