Rolls-Royce teams up with HE
Rolls-Royce has selected the University of Surrey’s School of Engineering to host a University Technology Centre (UTC)
, for its expertise in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
The Centre is underwritten by a five year rolling contract from the company and is also expected to attract funding from other sources such as Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the European Community.
Speaking today, University of Surrey Vice-Chancellor Professor Patrick Dowling said: "I am delighted that the University of Surrey has been successful in being awarded this contract. We are extremely proud to be associated with such a prestigious organisation as Rolls-Royce and I am confident that the quality of our engineering research will add value and further excellence."
Rolls-Royce works together with a number of universities across the UK and world wide to support and develop research in academic centres of excellence. These UTC partnerships create a cross-cultural working environment for Rolls-Royce and University staff in areas of basic science, applied research, staff training, and technology transfer, where the universities can benefit from privileged access to Rolls-Royce capability bases and information networks. In particular, the UTC at Surrey will be working closely with an existing UTC at the University of Sussex, led by Dr Peter Childs. MF
