Siemens to provide Germany with its largest offshore wind farm to date
Siemens Energy has secured its sixth order for an offshore wind power plant in Germany.
The company will deliver 80 wind turbines with a capacity of 3.6MW and a rotor diameter of 120m each, as part of WindMW's Meerwind Süd and Meerwind Ost project.
The turbines are being installed over an area of 42km2, approximately 50km off the German coast in the North Sea. With a total capacity of 288MW, the plant will supply clean energy to approximately 400,000 households.
Siemens is taking responsiblity for the supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines and has announced plans to provide a five year service, maintenance, and warranty agreement with WindMW. Construction and commissioning is planned for 2013.
