Strathclyde medical spin off signs exclusive UK distribution agreement

University of Strathclyde spin off, Ohmedics has appointed Dolby Medical as the exclusive UK distributor of its wound monitoring products.

Founded in 2009, Ohmedics was set up by a group Strathclyde bioengineers to bring to market an innovative device called WoundSense. Based on a single use, sterile, disposable, moisture sensor, WoundSence is designed to allow doctors and nurses to check whether a wound is moist – the optimum condition for healing – without having to remove the dressing. This is said to reduce pain and skin trauma to the patient and limit the chance of infection. Ohmedics ceo, Professor Trish Connolly, described the agreement as a major step forward for the company. She believes the device has the potential to save health care services thousands of pounds. "This is an exciting step for us in beginning to deliver the message about the advantages of WoundSense in wound management right across the UK," she said. "The partnership with such a well respected healthcare distributor will allow many more NHS hospitals and clinics to access, evaluate and take up WoundSense."
