Sunglass takes 3D modelling platform out of beta
US start-up Sunglass has announced the official, public-wide launch of its browser-based 3D modelling platform.
The tool, as featured in the August issue of Eureka, is designed for sharing and collaborating on 3D models created in a number of different CAD programmes, including SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor and SketchUp.
The latest release adds new features that promise to improve the communication layer for projects, letting users seamlessly push and pull models from CAD software to Sunglass as they make changes, to stream edits in real-time while carrying on live discussions with clients and collaborators in the browser.
"One of the most frustrating aspects of the design process has been a lack of an efficient communication layer," Sunglass co-founder Kaustuv DeBiswas told us. "This release of Sunglass addresses that issue, and we are thrilled to provide designers a compelling solution that can reduce their design cycle time and effectively improve production and quality."
As well as a new browser, Sunglass features a back-end architecture supporting loss-less data and assembly-part mapping, along with version history. This means designers can track and manage changes throughout the creation process in a way that wasn't previously possible.
There are also options for collaborative assembly and the ability to let users selectively control access to individual parts of a larger project.
