Toyota boosts hybrid efficiency by 10%
Toyota has found a way to boost fuel efficiency in hybrid cars by an impressive 10%.
The automotive giant used silicon carbide to create a power semiconductor for use a vehicle's power control unit (PCU).
This, it says, consumes just a tenth of the energy of competitive chips, while allowing the PCU to be 80% smaller.
The chips work by managing the flow of electricity through the control unit, decreasing the loss of energy that is dissipated by heat.
