UK car manufacturing up 23.5%
Figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that UK car manufacturing rose 23.5% in February to 138,206 units.
The strong gain is expected to bolster hopes for a continuing resurgence of output and further boost an already healthy export performance.
It comes on the back of increasing job opportunities announced recently by the likes of Honda, Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover.
SMMT chief executive Paul Everitt said: "The car manufacturing rise last month maintains the trend of strong export-led growth and confirms the importance of manufacturing to a rebalanced and prosperous economy. The UK automotive sector continues to attract investment and generate new jobs.
Everitt warned, however, that there was no room for complacency. "It is essential the Chancellor uses next week's budget to deliver on its growth strategy and boost the UK's competitiveness by encouraging private sector investment in research and development, capital equipment and skills," he concluded.
