At the event, the Minister for Economy outlined the Welsh Government’s vision of innovation for a stronger, fairer, greener Wales with its plans to cover four mission areas — education, economy, health and wellbeing and climate and nature. To support the strategy at the event, Renishaw showcased examples of its work in STEM engagement by demonstrating student projects, spoke to visitors about how the company is reducing its carbon emissions and gave a tour of the in-house manufacturing facility.
“We chose to launch our strategy at Renishaw because it’s a great representative for employers that invest in Wales,” explained Vaughan Gething, Minister for Economy in Wales. “The company already delivers on every part of our mission by providing STEM outreach opportunities to local schools, collaborating with the NHS to develop 3D printing processes for surgical procedures and investing heavily in low-carbon builds to help meet Net Zero targets.
“Our economy, education, wellbeing and climate missions are underpinned by our drive for Wales to be a leading, innovation-based nation. By presenting our strategy today we hope to showcase that innovation is for all of us and everyone in Wales should have the opportunity to not only participate in innovation but to benefit from it,” concluded Gething.
“It was a pleasure to host the Minister and be able to show them and visitors how we can showcase innovation in Wales,” explained Rupert Jones, managing director of Renishaw Medical. “Our tour gave visitors an opportunity to see how businesses can support the Government’s plans. Local students presented engineering projects they have worked on as part of our education outreach in the area. We also showcased our current in-house manufacturing facility and some of the landmark projects it has supported, such as Welsh bike manufacturer Atherton Bikes. We look forward to collaborating with the Government and seeing how the strategy will encourage future innovation in Wales.”
