Work begins at new bioenergy research centre
Building work has started at a new £16.5million bioenergy research centre at Aston University in Birmingham.
The European Bioenergy Research Institute (EBRI) will showcase and develop renewable low carbon technologies and include a small scale industrial power plant.
This, according to EBRI's director Professor Andreas Hornung, will generate heat and power from biomass, including sewage sludge, wood, algae and agricultural waste.
Once the facility is complete, the researchers will look at ways of generating biomass by-products, including hydrogen power for low carbon vehicles and a source for decentralised hydrogen production.
