Geoff Cronshaw is the chief electrical engineer of the IET. Cronshaw joined the IET in 2001 and was made chief electrical engineer in 2004. Prior to joining the IET Cronshaw spent over twenty years in electrical consultancy where he was responsible for designing a wide range of electrical installations in both the public and private sector. He is a chartered engineer and a fellow of the IET.
Cronshaw is secretary of JPEL 64, the National Wiring Regulations Committee, and also secretary of the National Ships Committee (JPEL/18). He is convenor of an International Maintenance Team responsible for developing world standards and a CENELEC Working Group responsible for developing European standards.

In his talk, Cronshaw will be looking at the requirements of Amendment 2 for charging electric vehicles and Amendment 3 changes including:

  • Requirements for consumer units to have non-combustible enclosures rather than plastic.
  • Changes to the securing of wiring systems in escape routes.
  • Changes to RCD protection for cables concealed in a wall or partition.
  • A new Section 557, covering auxiliary circuits for the transmission of signals for detection, supervision or control.
  • Changes to Section 717 covering Mobile and Transportable Units.
  • Changes to electrical installation condition report and associated notes, including a requirement to carry out an inspection within an accessible roof space where electrical equipment is present in that roof space.
