3D Printing – The cost effective solution to expensive tooling costs
Data Plastics have recently acquired a new Hewlett Packard 3D Printer from Laserlines and will be promoting this new service to all stand visitors at Subcon 2012. From any 3D dimensional drawing, we can now produce the most complex of components – even those with movable parts.
Prototypes are produced in a strong ABS plastic which offers greater strength than previous SLA prototyping methods. We can supply small batch runs of new parts to enable you to see how those components perform in situ before committing to production tooling. With 3D Printing, the production of prototypes has become a faster and less expensive option.
Our existing customers have already benefited
Although we have just invested in our first 3D Printer, we have been using the technology for some years. Working with innovator Shaun Pulfrey, we used SLA prototyping in the first developmental phase of his revolutionary designed hairbrush the Tangle Teezer. This product has now gone on to be one of the most recognisable brands in recent years with exports of over 400,000 units worldwide. Recently, using 3D Printing, we have produce a multi-sectioned lighting part for Havells Sylvania Fixtures UK Ltd – providing a cost effective approach to the development and design of a product prior to commitment to the production and development of tooling.
For those customers who do not have their own design team, Data Plastics can also offer you access to an experienced team of CAD designers, engineers, tool-makers and quality inspectors who will work alongside you to ensure your product is developed and delivered to the highest standard.
