3D Printing – Steareolithography, a layer additive manufacturing. A laser cures an ultra-violet sensitive resin, layer by layer, 0.1mm at a time. SLA offers highly accurate models with a quick turnaround. SL models are also used as master models which are put into silicone to create a tool for vacuum casting or rim casting. SLS – Selective Laser Sintering – a high powered laser heats and cures plastic, metal or ceramic powder, layer by layer , the powder is pre-heated to just below its melting point to make it easier for the laser to heat above the melting point in a localised area. This process offers materials such as nylon and glass filled nylon to name a few. Model making - Our model makers have countless years of experience from creating figurines, full automotive dash assemblies, to children's cutlery. Their skills create a wide scope for producing the best products possible. The model makers will take the SL model, finish the part to a provided specification whether it is a VDI value or a fully polished surface. We can also provide a hand painting service for the more intricate parts. We can match to any Pantone or RAL reference, and also have a metallic and chroming service. Vacuum Casting - A silicone tool is created using a master model suspended in a box, silicone is poured into the box and cured. When the tool is ready to be cast it is heated, a two-part polyurethane is mixed under vacuum and poured into the tool. This is then cured in an oven to allow the cast to solidify. The tool is split carefully to remove the cast which is then passed to the model makers for fettling. This process consists of removing the gates and risers and any flash or production marks.
