Gibbs Gears wants to be a part of your success using the latest gear technology
Gibbs Gears (AS9100 approved) manufactures complete or cutting only customer blanks. We produce Spur, Helical & Bevel Gears, Internal & External Splines & Serrations, Racks & Pinions, Broaching & Tooth Rounding. Blanks are produced on CNC lathes & CNC mills.
Gear cutting on CNC hobbing & CNC shaping machines. Gear Grinding is produced using Reishauer Technology with inspection to confirm the accuracy required.
The two creatures supporting the shield on the Australian Coat of Arms are the Red Kangaroo and Emu. It is often claimed these animals were chosen because neither animal can move backward, only forward - i.e. progress. The same ethos applies to successful companies, going forward because of innovation within their market and calculated investment to strengthen their position.
Gear manufacturer Gibbs Gears, an AS9100 approved company, with comprehensive gear manufacturing capabilities covering low to medium volumes and all gear types including; palloid spiral bevels, straight bevels, sprockets, worms, wheels and both straight and helical gears, has moved forward in both ways.
In 2012, the Company successfully manufactured a gearbox for Wheeltug and partners, designed within the nose wheel of a 737-700, to solely demonstrate the movement of the plane powered from its APU system. In the near future, this will lead to the removal of the current usage of wheeltugs, which will mean less noise, faster turnaround for low budget flights and reduced fuel consumption.
If one major project proved a high for the company, Gibbs Gears was chosen by Agility Global as the gear partner to manufacture a bespoke 2 speed gearbox to aid the launch of a new British designed and built electric powered motorcycle into the market.
Both of these projects involved working with the various team members from a number of different companies from the design concept, through to the proto-type development. This is where Gibbs Gears are looking to develop their business, through collaborations, building upon the knowledge gained and working with projects developing the pre-production units and working alongside the designers preparing parts for production.
The calculated purchase of key equipment has been part of our success. Gibbs Gears has invested in a Falcon 5000 3 Axis Video Measuring Machine from Vision Engineering which has been essential for aerospace orders where accurate repeatable measurements are required for advanced data handling capability. Furthermore, a Carl Zeiss DuraMax, Universal CMM has been added augmenting our Wenzel CMM strengthening our inspection department.
On the shop floor, investments have been made in CNC Turning through the installation of a Doosan Puma 2600SY, increasing our capacity and capability with greater accuracy and repeatability, superior cutting performance and greater process reliability and comes complete with a Y-axis, driven tools and a sub-spindle.
Additionally the arrival of a new Matsuura VX1000 a 4 axis CNC Vertical machining centre is imminent. With a 1200 x 600 worktable, 500kg max load and 30 tools further enhancing our capability and capacity in our milling section too. Although Gibbs Gears are manufacturers of customer specified transmission components, buyers want to source from companies with complete capability
However it is the manufacturing of transmission components that is the main focus for Gibbs Gears. Recent investments to our gear hobbing capability with the installation of a Gleason Pfauter P90G alongside the P60 has proved to be an excellent investment, allowing us to be more competitive in larger volume batch sizes of smaller gears, typically around 25mm diameter and a pitch of 2.0 Module.
The arrival of a new Gleason Pfauter P500 ES CNC Shaping Machine is another investment to improve our capabilities in this area of gear cutting, augmenting the earlier investments made with our Leibherr/Lorenz LS86 and LS256. The new ES500 increases our capability to be able to cut both internal and external gears up to 500mm diameter, and with its programmable guide system to cut helical gears up to this diameter without the need for expensive helical guides and with a much improved turn around.
