The HEICO-LOCK® Wheel Nut incorporates the proven bolt security technology of the HEICO-LOCK® Wedge Locking Washers with a flanged nut in a one piece design that provides wheel security under the most adverse circumstances, high speeds and demanding road conditions.
The key to this system is the pair of wedge locking washers which have wedge shaped cams on the inside surface and radial teeth on the outside.Tightening of the nut creates a ‘gripping’ action of the external radial teeth thus seating the mating surface (wheel rim). The wedge angle of the internal cams is greater than the pitch of the stud thread and any loosening caused by dynamic stresses causes movement between the two washers in the region of these wedged cams. This creates an expansion in the thickness of the washers and as this thickness is greater than the possible longitudinal movement of the stud along the thread increases the clamping force, causing the wheel nut and stud to self-lock.
The HEICO-LOCK® Wheel Nut is supplied pre-assembled with the flanged nut and the Wedge Locking Washers combined in a captive and rotary system. As the nut and washers are fixed permanently in the correct position the risk of misuse is eliminated and the one piece design makes for simple and fast installation.
The wheel nut is entirely re-usable and is available in M20 x 1.5, M22 x 1.5 and 7/8” – 11 BSF and has been approved by TÜV Süd (M20 x 1.5 & M22 x 1.5 variants). To achieve this approval the HEICO-LOCK® Wheel Nut passed extensive dynamic fatigue testing, pre-tension force testing and 600 hours of salt spray testing.
