Hypervisors and wireless speed acquisition of data

Hypervisors will allow different operating systems to be run simultaneously on different computing cores on the same chip, and a new wireless sensor network technology. It makes it possible, for example, to run Windows XP on one core to log data and LabView Real Time on other cores in order to perform computation on the data simulatniously. This allows processed information to be either delivered in real time to a control system or reduce the volume of data that has to be stored. The wireless sensor network capability is particularly efficient because it uses very low power Zigbee technology. Technical marketing team leader Tristan Jones said: "You can get several years usage out of a single set of batteries." Immediate applications are seen in environmental and structural health monitoring as well as industrial machine control and gathering real time data to improve energy efficiency. In a demonstration, a multiple input monitoring system took only seconds to set up, and was used to monitor the water depth and oxygen content of the run off pool at the company's headquarters in Austin, Texas.
