Advice on medical devices

The UK has one of the largest medical device markets in the world, and the third largest in Europe behind Germany and France. But while it is a growth area, the area is very tightly regulated. Some of the sessions at the conference will help to understand the finer points of this. Topics to be covered include: implementation and update on the revision to the Medical Devices Directive; the proposed EC regulation for advanced therapy medical products; and the effects of medical device regulations on clinical trials. For those at the sharp end of development, there will be a parallel session on research and development, including a session on biosensors given by Professor Anthony Turner from Cranfield University. The second day includes a session on micro- and nano-technology including the latest developments in lab-on-a-chip technology. There is a parallel session on manufacturing. Manufacturing will also be emphasised at the event, which is free to attend. Design consultancies and software companies will be well represented. Exhibitors include Abaqus UK, Comsol, and Fluent. Fluent has just announced the first release of 3Matic for Fluent, a custom-developed batch geometry preconditioning module that came from a collaboration with Materialise. When combined with Fluent Tgrid 4.0 wrapper technology, 3Matic-for Fluent improves the process of geometry to meshed model for files originating from Catia, UG, Pro/E, STEP and IGES or in faceted STL ad WRML formats.
