One-off shock absorber saves the day
Have you ever wanted to be able to replace your car bumper after accidentally changing the original design of your car
Problem: ? If so, how could this be done within the constraints of a low budget?
Bumpers are of course essential in terms of softening impacts and preventing damage to the more expensive hardware located behind them.
Collisions are also very real problems in a production environment. But many companies are loath to break the bank pre-empting a ‘what if’ scenario. Conventional shock absorbers can be used but they may be overkill – especially as an expensive ‘just in case’ back up.
In the interests of safety (and bank balances) some form of efficient dampening is necessary to prevent damage. However, up until now there have been only three choices available: pay to install shock absorbers, pay to install particularly unimpressive rubber bumpers or simply do without any form of safety system.
Solution: Enidine has designed a one-use shock absorber, analogous to an electric fuse. The product is superior to a rubber bumper because there is no rebound (top graph) given that it is capable of absorbing over 95% of the energy generated by a collision (lower graph).
Once used, the absorbers are discarded and replaced with an identical successor. Made from high-grade polymers with a metallic inner core, they are light and cheap to produce.
Applications: They could be used in many manufacturing applications. And their cost-effectiveness, performance, and ease of use and installation do not make the decision to install them a particularly tough one, especially when they offer the opportunity to save thousands of pounds. MF
