Space coolers offered for the ground
The Science and Technology Facilities Council laboratories at Daresbury and Harwell have developed a number of non-refrigerant cooling technologies that are available through its commercialisation arm
.
Astec in Daresbury works on complex, leading edge equipment for science facilities that need to incorporate cryogenic systems, while the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory is synonymous in some quarters with research associated with superconducting magnets and systems for space projects.
Cryox based at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory at Didcot, has been formed to exploit IP from current and future research, and to help take cryocooler and superconductive technologies from space and military applications into other areas such as medical.
Cryox managing director John Vandore: “There are lots of reasons for wanting to avoid media like liquid nitrogen and liquid media, particularly health and safety issues and cost.”
