In Cologne, Germany, during the 1960s, igus was one of the first companies to develop and manufacture technical plastics for engineering, initially as a manufacturer of complex polymer components. In the 1980s, it began selling its own motion plastic bearings, energy chain systems and continuous flex cables direct to customers, before establishing its UK operation in 1991.
