Zig zag energy chains save space
Energy chains are the umbilical cord of many modern machines and are typically installed linearly. However, for applications that require vertical cable management, especially those with space constraints, this is not an option.
Energy chain specialist igus UK has therefore created the zig zag design, a vertical installation concept that saves space.
The zig zag installation is achieved by reversing the links of the energy chain to reduce the camber which then creates a fold. This can be done several times, depending on the length of the energy chain and the space required. Once retracted, the system becomes very compact and the housed cables are protected with a minimum bend radius enforced by the energy chain.
The energy chains also ensure good separation and strain relief even when the system is in motion. To control and contain the zig zag system when stowed, igus can produce a standard basket solution to meet customers' requirements.
