The Paving the Path to a Net Zero NHS webinar will be chaired by Maria Mackay, senior commercial advisor at Health Innovation East and will feature presentations on the critical importance of achieving net zero within healthcare; a roundtable discussion on overcoming barriers to change; and examples of decarbonisation initiatives from within healthcare as well as from other sectors.

An interactive Q&A session will include insights from two inspiring innovators who are changing the face of healthcare:

· Lise Pape, who founded Walk with Path after witnessing her father’s struggle with Parkinson’s Disease for more than 15 years.  Her company is developing innovative products to help people with everyday mobility challenges; and

·  Tom Dawson, founder of Revolution-ZERO which is pioneering reusable medical textiles to replace disposable PPE, surgical gowns and drapes and a low-temperature, sustainable washing process for them.

All webinar attendees will be offered a follow-up session with tailored advice from experts at 42T, Health Innovation East and Eco Sourcing Hub on assessing carbon footprints, exploring reduction options, and implementing effective decarbonisation strategies to support their net zero goals.

The healthcare sector is currently responsible for almost 5% of all global greenhouse gas emissions with climate change – like extreme heat and worsening air pollution – directly increasing the risk of various respiratory, cardiovascular and other diseases (see ref 1).  In 2020, NHS England was the first health service in the world to commit to achieving net zero by 2045.  Innovation and collaboration between all stakeholders are viewed as essential in creating a greener NHS and super-charging its progress towards net zero.
