Keep calm and carry on: A simple tool to control complex engineering tasks

You’ve invested in robots to facilitate and improve your machine tending processes. Now your capabilities have expanded, and the tasks required by your robots are becoming increasingly complex. Where do you go from here? The answer lies hidden in a simple cabinet.

Earlier this year, the J-30iB was launched at Germany’s Interpack, demonstrating to packaging and palletising businesses across Europe that robots and automation are now firmly within reach.

The controller, which forms a part of automation solutions provider FANUC’s range of drives, controls and robot controllers, can not only facilitate the integration of automation and robotics processes, but also simplify the management of complex project engineering and servo axis positioning tasks.

The secret lies in the J-30iB’s ability to coordinate multiple machine axes that are operating simultaneously, through its servo drives and integrated high-performance Programmable Machine Control (PMC). The controller is available in three standard configurations but can also be customised on request.

The controller’s flexibility means it can be applied to any automation or robot integration requirements, while providing a consistently high level of precision and control. Its CE certification simplifies the declaration process for manufacturers and it is also compatible with existing software functions of FANUC robots, including industrial FIELDBUS systems.

The J-30iB comes in two sizes. “A cabinet” is the standard, and is both compact and stackable, making it a great solution for manufacturers with limited floor space. “B cabinet” is larger and allows for greater customisation with more room for additional amplifiers and I/O modules.

Launching the controller at Interpack, FANUC UK’s sales and marketing manager, Andrew Armstrong, commented: “All FANUC controllers operate on the guiding principles of precision, control and ease-of-use. In addition, the J-30iB offers manufacturers flexibility, while simplifying complex, multi-axes machine motions without the need for extensive programming.”
