Food safe PowerGear gearboxes

Drive Lines has released a food safe version of its PowerGear spiral bevel gearbox manufactured by MS Graessner. It has a gear housing coated with Duralloy-TDC (thin dense chrome), a material which Zurich-based test bureau Labor Veritas has verified as safe for use with food technology equipment.

Duralloy TDC is a hard, crack-free, precise, thin and ultra-pure metallic chromium layer. It is claimed to offer high corrosion resistance, and in particular provides effective protection against friction and vibration related corrosion. It also offers outstanding chemical resistance, making it particularly useful in food industry applications that are subject to vigorous washdown.

These latest PowerGear units also make use of stainless steel shafts that resist corrosion and are lubricated for life with food grade oil.

The PowerGear range of high performance bevel gearboxes is characterised by high torques at high speeds from a compact, lightweight package. Output torques of up to 7000Nm are available and with efficiency ratings of 98% energy costs are kept low. Gear ratios from 1:1 to 5:1 are available, with output via flange, solid or hollow shaft in multiple flexible configurations. Lubricated for life, the gearboxes are virtually maintenance-free under normal operating conditions.
