Fire-retardant coating developed for rubber
Trelleborg Industrial Solutions has launched DragonCoat, an innovative fire-retardant coating for rubber components.
DragonCoat is optimised to give a significant degree of fire protection to rubber products while retaining all the material's natural elasticity. It has the ability to delay combustion, extending escape time during an incident and reducing the exposure to smoke and toxic fumes.
Originally developed for the rail industry, DragonCoat ensures that natural rubber products such as suspension components directly exposed to flames will not ignite for as long as the coating lasts.
The coating has no impact on the flexibility or performance of the natural rubber spring, enhances the product's oil and fuel resistance, and has a life expectancy comparable to the component itself. In the event of a fire, the coating also offers a considerable reduction in carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide.
