Trelleborg launches new fire-retardant rubber coating
Trelleborg has launched DragonCoat – a new, flexible fire-retardant coating – to protect rail components. The protective coating is considered to be the first to give a significant degree of fire protection to natural rubber suspension components, delaying combustion of the main body of rubber.
This allows passengers more time to escape in the event of a fire, depending on the nature of the fire typically an extra three minutes, which can be critical in protection of life and survivability.
Trelleborg's DragonCoat ensures that suspension components made of natural rubber directly exposed to a heat source will not ignite for as long as the coating provides a shield, thus delaying the onset of smoke, toxic emissions, and flames. In addition, it has the capability to flex and deform constantly throughout a long service life, while retaining all the natural elasticity of the material.
