Giles, who is Chief Technologist at defence company AWE, has been a volunteer for IMechE for over 20 years.
Most recently, he has been Chair of the Strategy Committee responsible for developing the long-term vision for IMechE and leading strategic planning activities.
Giles will use his Presidential Address to launch our new strategy to transform the IMechE into a “global, inclusive and digitally enabled engineering community” to deliver on our mission of “improving the world through engineering”.
Giles said:
“I am proud and honoured to be IMechE’s 138th President at such an important time as we launch our new strategy and look forward to our exciting future, laying out what we aspire to achieve, how we intend to succeed and most importantly of all, why."
Giles joined the Institution as a Young Member in 1999 and gained a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from University College London in 2002.
He has worked for AWE since graduation in a number of roles. Giles obtained an MSc in Industrial Materials from Loughborough University in 2008 and became a Chartered Engineer the same year.
His volunteering activities at IMechE have been wide ranging, including being Chair of the Greater London Region. Giles has served on the Trustee Board since 2018, and last year was elected joint Deputy President together with Clive Hickman OBE.
