Adhesive tape prevents ingress of water and dust
Today, thousands of home and business owners across the UK are having to face up to more regular, unpredictable flooding and so, once they receive a flood warning, these people require fast, easy solutions that protect their properties against the ingress of water.
Problem: The same floods can also damage vehicles.
Solution: Specialist adhesive tape manufacturer Scapa has combined forces with its distributor Gawler Tapes and technology and design consultancy firm WT UK, to develop a synthetic PIB rubber-based sealing strip, designed to prevent the ingress of water through airbricks in buildings, but which has numerous other industrial applications. 'Flood sentry' is a quick and easy to apply sealant that is cost-effective when compared to mechanical alternatives such as metal covers. Scapa's 0305 sealing strip is the adhesive component. A printed foil on the outer layer makes the product easily identifiable, while a new siliconised embossed liner on the opposite side ensures easy removal to enable the sealing strip to bond to the airbrick. Flood sentry is a low cost, temporary flood protection method which can be easily removed once the water recedes. Specially designed in teak colour, any residue from the pad blends into the airbrick once the tape is removed to avoid unsightly traces.
Applications: Although initially developed for home and business owners, flood sentry has many other industrial uses. Scapa's 0305 provides good adhesion to a wide range of substrates and so can be used alone as an air, dust or water seal. From joining polyethylene sheeting and sealing lap joints in roofing and cladding systems, through to water protection in vehicles, the tape offers flexible usage. The tapes are available in a wide range of colours and formats, including rolls and pads. DP
