Large high speed ball bearings for hybrid car motors
NSK has announced that it has developed large diameter bearings for the motors used in hybrid engines to help improve fuel economy and driving performance.
The large-diameter ball bearings have an inner diameter of 160mm and outer diameter of 190mm but are designed to operate at very high rotational speeds; over 10,000rpm. To deal with the tremendous centrifugal force generated by the high-speed rotation of large-diameter bearings, carbon fibre reinforced PEEK is used as the cage material.
