Hall effect sensor suits extreme environments

BEI Sensors has launched the 9970 series of Hall Effect rotary position sensors to build on its range of non-contacting sensors that are designed to provide long-life and high reliability in harsh and challenging environments.

Available in the UK from Variohm EuroSensor, the 6mm shaft-driven sensor features a choice of 0 to 5V ratiometric or 4 to 20mA output with 2-bit resolution and electrical angle ranges from 30° up to 360° in 30° increments. Accuracy is said to be +/-0.6% of active electrical angle.

The compact sensor is claimed to be a drop-in replacement for existing installations or for new steering angle and pedal position applications on construction and agricultural vehicles as well as position feedback for mining, marine and industrial equipment or for valve positioning in process control.

The sensor is housed in tough glass-filled PBT and includes IP67 and IP69K sealing which provides resilience to salts, oils and frequent washdown. The sensor also features an operating temperature range of -40 to 125°C and non-contacting Hall Effect technology makes the 9970 robust against shock and vibration, BEI claims the sensors have a life factor of more than 35million cycles.
